Deepfakes are a growing concern in Singapore, as they can be used to spread disinformation and defraud people.
In December 2023, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong warned the public of deepfake videos circulating online which purportedly showed him and Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong promoting an investment platform. The videos used artificial intelligence to manipulate their voices and facial expressions, making them look realistic and convincing.
