Singapore, 20 July 2023 – ONERHT Foundation Ltd (“Foundation”), the corporate social responsibility vehicle of RHTLaw Asia LLP and the RHT Group of Companies (collectively, “ONERHT”), welcomed more than 150 delegates to its 6th GAIL Forum held at Suntec City Convention Centre.
GAIL, which stands for “Greening ASEAN: Initiatives & Leadership” aims to gather relevant expertise, knowledge and practical measures to enable ASEAN companies to respond to the region’s growing call for sustainable development.
Guest-of-Honour Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies Heng Swee Keat delivered a keynote speech at the event and also launched the ethBe platform, a professional network powered by RHT G.R.A.C.E. Institute anchored in its principles of Governance, Risk, AML, Compliance, Ethics and ESG. ethBe, derived from Be Ethical, aims to inspire positive culture of ethical leadership in business.
Ms Kaylee Kwok, Chairman of ONERHT Foundation, said, “While climate change impacts us all, inequalities exacerbate climate impacts on disadvantaged and vulnerable communities. It is therefore fitting that the environment and sustainability is a key pillar of the Foundation’s philanthropic efforts and we will continue to promote positive impact through meaningful events.”
Expert panellists at the forum exchanged insights across key themes of energy, strategy and finance, and discussed how companies, financial markets, consumers, employees and communities can align to advance efforts in sustainability through decarbonisation strategies and alternative financing options in the green economy. Mr Wee Boon Siong, CEO of sustainability consultancy RHT Green, said, “As we approach the midpoint of the UN 2050 goals, the global energy landscape has experienced significant disruption and volatility due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, highlighting our continued reliance on fossil fuels. Meeting the ambitious targets of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming requires unwavering commitment and collective action more than ever to build a sustainable future.”
Since its inception in 2015, the Foundation, with the support of its donors and sponsors been able to raise more than S$4.5 million for more than 30 charitable organisations. ONERHT, a multidisciplinary network of professional and specialist services, has pledged to achieve net zero carbon by 2030.
