Singapore’s accommodation, MICE and attractions sectors have been heavily reliant on foreign visitors. As a vibrant city in ASEAN, our island-state had attracted as many as 19.1 million visitors in 2019, with most visitors from Asian countries including China, Indonesia, India and Malaysia. Our geographical position on the map has also fed a dynamic travel trade with Singapore operating as a leading aviation hub at the heart of highly interconnected travel routes.
Necessary efforts in 2020 to fight the spread of COVID-19 have unfortunately led to weakened cashflows for businesses which are dependent on open borders. Owners and guarantors have found it increasingly challenging to manage creditors, critical suppliers, and other stakeholders in these recent months of Phase 1 and Phase 2.
Where do we go from here? What critical decisions will need to be taken? How do we get through this disruption and emerge on the other side?
