Whilst serving in the Singapore Legal Service, Rajaram held various judicial appointments including that of Magistrate, Magistrate – Juvenile Court, District Judge, Coroner, Referee – Small Claims and Deputy Registrar of the Subordinate Courts (now State Courts). He presided over both civil and criminal cases. He also presided for 5 years as President of the General Court Martial whilst fulfilling his duties as a reservist in the Singapore Armed Forces.
He left the Legal Service in 1994 to enter private practice. He was a partner of Wee, Ramayah & Partners from 1994 till 2015 and joined Quahe Woo & Palmer LLC as a consultant when the two firms merged.
His areas of practise include commercial, corporate, civil & criminal litigation and aviation law. He also co-authored a chapter in the publication, Singapore Employment Manual published by Asia Law & Practice Publishing. He has also published a chapter in the publication, “Getting the Deal Through” on Air Transport 2016.
Rajaram has undertaken litigation in the High Court, Court of Appeal and in the State Courts generally in commercial transactions. He also handled most of the Plaintiff cases for passengers and crew involved in both the air crashes relating to our two Singapore national carriers. In May 2004, he was appointed a Reserve Panel Member of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and has also presided as an arbitrator.
He has represented airlines and aircraft operators in the Asia Pacific Region in numerous aircraft transactions including the leasing, purchase/sale and financing of commercial aircraft, business jets and in the acquisition of new generation aircraft. He also advises on aviation regulatory matters, structuring of transactions and in the repossession of aircraft.
Since 1998 Rajaram has been recognised as a leading aviation lawyer in various publications including Euromoney Legal Group Guide. In 2005, he was also recognized by the publication Asia Law & Practice as a leading Aviation Lawyer in the Asia/Pacific Region and has also been listed for many years in the Who’s Who Legal (Business Lawyers) for his aviation expertise.
In 2004, he served as Vice Chairman (Aviation Committee) of the Inter Pacific Bar Association. Rajaram has also served as a committee member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (Singapore Branch).
For his social work, he received the “Friends of Ministry of Community Youth Sports (MCYS)” award in 2012 and the 20 years long service award for serving the Ministry in various capacities including two terms as a Council Member of the Charity Council since its formation in 2007. In 2013, he was conferred the National Day award of the Pingat Bakti Masyarakat (Public Service Medal) for his services as the Chairman of the Review Board (Children and Young Persons Act), a position he has held since 2011.
On 24th April 2018 Rajaram was appointed as a Justice of the Peace receiving his warrant from the President of the Republic of Singapore. In October 2018, he was appointed as a member of the Strata Titles Board.
Rajaram was awarded the Public Service Star (BBM) in the 2019 National Day Honours for his public service with the Ministry of Social and Family Development. He is currently serving his 9th year as the Chairman of the Review Board (Children & Young Persons).
Rajaram has 24 years of experience and expertise in the aviation sector having represented both airlines and aircraft operators in the Asia Pacific Region in numerous transactions relating to the leasing, purchase/sale and financing of commercial aircraft, business jets as well as the acquisition of new generation aircraft. His depth of knowledge of aviation law also enables him to advise on aviation regulatory matters, the structuring of transactions and aviation related litigation including repossession of aircraft.
Rajaram graduated with LL.B (Hons.) from the University of London in 1982 and after his admission to Middle Temple as a Barrister-at-Law in 1983, read his Master of Law (LL.M) at the University of Cambridge in 1984 before joining the Singapore Legal Service.
