Background Information

Rizwi is regarded as one of the most highly-acclaimed experts within Singapore and the region in his main practice area of Intellectual Property – covering the creation, protection, commercialisation and enforcement of intellectual property, as well as advising on legal and regulatory aspects of technology-related matters, with particular emphasis on Data Protection, Cyber Security, and Competition Law issues.

Rizwi brings to RHTLaw Asia a breadth of knowledge and expertise stemming from his history of in-house industry experience, having previously worked as in-house legal officer and company secretary to a Singapore Government-Linked Company and legal counsel in a multi-national consumer electronics company.

In his prolific career, he has advised clients such as China Mobile and Nexmo, Inc. on regulatory licences and permits with the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, for the provision of telecommunication services and Monster Energy on regulatory issues and permit for food importation.

He contributes regularly on topics including life sciences research, data protection, and franchising and has been featured in local and international media where he shared his perspectives on cyber security and data protection issues.

  • Engaged to advise FairPrice on full compliance with the said Notice, and we also represented FairPrice in making written submissions and in meetings with the CCCS on this matter.
  • Engaged by Takashimaya to review their operating procedures in light of the competition law provisions in the context of the retail industry in Singapore.
  • Engaged to advise BreakTalk Group on and highlight anti-competitive concerns in relation to their proposed acquisition of a chain of food courts in Singapore.
  • Engaged by UE Orchard Private Limited to advise on the potential competition law issues arising from proposed restrictive payment issues in tenancy agreements with the tenants in the mall.
  • Engaged by US Lawyers of Specialised Bicycle Components to advise on anti-competitive issues, specifically potential abuse of dominant position, in relation to their proposed recommended retail pricing in Singapore
