Singapore, 27 June 2019 – RHTLaw Taylor Wessing has appointed Mr Azman Jaafar as its new Managing Partner with effect from 1 July 2019. Azman will succeed Mr Tan Chong Huat who has been at the helm of the firm since it was established eight years ago.
Upon relinquishing his appointment on 1 July 2019, Chong Huat will assume his new role as Chairman of the firm’s new Management Board and Supervisory Council.
Speaking on the new appointments, Chong Huat said, “The leadership transition marks a new phase in our growth as we celebrate our 8th anniversary. The legal services sector will be facing new challenges and it is timely for us to use this opportunity to bolster our management team as we gear up for this phase of our growth. Azman, who has served as RHTLaw Taylor Wessing’s Deputy Managing Partner for nearly four years, said, “We are entering into a very exciting and challenging phase of our growth. As one of the founding members of RHTLaw Taylor Wessing, Azman previously headed the firm’s Corporate Practice, specialising in mergers and acquisitions with a focus on the energy, education, technology and hospitality industry sectors. He oversees the Indonesia Practice, as well as the firm’s digital transformation. In school, Azman studied Mandarin as a second language. He is fluent in Mandarin and Bahasa Indonesia. He also chairs the ASEAN Plus Group, an Asian network of leading law firms spearheaded by RHTLaw Taylor Wessing.
As part of its succession and leadership plan, RHTLaw Taylor Wessing has also appointed a new Management Board on 1 April 2019 with the addition of three new members: Ms Ch’ng Li-Ling, Mr Erwan Barre and Mr Yang Eu Jin, joining current members Mr Nandakumar Renganathan, Chong Huat and Azman.
Chong Huat will also take on the role as Non-executive Chairman of the RHT Group of Companies, a multi-disciplinary professional services network with operations in Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia and Gibraltar. The Group of Companies comprises the RHT Holdings Group (covering financial services & technology), RHT People Group (covering learning, training and development) and RHT Consulting Group (covering digital, corporate advisory and consulting) as well as RHT Chestertons Pte Ltd, a company under the Carrington RHT Wealth Group (covering fund and asset management and investment advisory).
