Head of International China Practice Amanda Chen moderated a panel discussion at the FutureChina Global Forum 2019

RHTLaw Taylor Wessing’s Head of International China Practice (South East Asia), MsAmanda Chen moderated a panel discussion at this afternoon’s “FutureChina Global Forum 2019” organized by Business China. The topic discussed by the panel was titled “Can the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) be the solution to sustainable regional economic expansion and positive social improvement?”.

Tommy XIE, Head of Greater China Research, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited
During the panel discussion, Mr Xie shared his view that China may focus on the improvement of soft powers for the future BRI projects and highlighted that transparency could also be one of the key areas to be improved in terms of BRI.
Professor Tay pointed out that BRI projects should focus on the environment, social and governance while Mr Tan shared that the Chong Qing Project was a good example of how Singapore and China could cooperate in the technology industries apart from the infrastructure projects.
Ms Dai meanwhile shared about China Telecom’s exciting project in the Philippines and China Telecom’s vision of bringing a more connected future for those less developed countries.
Professor Xiang also highlighted that BRI is a well-intended initiative which could benefit a lot of countries and he looked forward to value-connected cooperation among BRI participating countries.
Amanda closed the panel discussion by summarizing the insightful points shared by the panelists and quoted Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s speech during the Shangri-La Dialogue to further elaborate the spirit of cooperation among the BRI participating countries.
