RHTLaw Taylor Wessing LLP Senior Partner Mr. Subhas Anandan Honoured with Launch of Bursary

Singapore, 29 October 2014 – RHTLaw Taylor Wessing LLP proudly announces a tribute for Senior Partner Mr. Subhas Anandan, Singapore’s top criminal lawyer and a titan of the Singapore Bar. The tribute event was held at the Supreme Court of Singapore with Guest of Honour Mr. K. Shanmugam, Minister for Law and Foreign Affairs. The event was attended by leaders of Singapore’s legal community comprising the Attorney-General Mr. V. K. Rajah, as well as judges from the Supreme Court and State Courts, lawyers, legal officers, law academics and students. As a fitting tribute to Mr. Anandan, members of the local legal community pledged a sum of S$100,000 towards the newly formed "Yellow Ribbon Fund Subhas Anandan Star Bursary Award," which will provide financial support to ex-inmates who wish to pursue further education and a second chance in society, a cause pioneered by Mr. Anandan during his four-decade career. In addition to the announcement of fund, the event featured remarks from high-profile members of Singapore’s legal community, all praising the professional and personal attributes of Mr. Anandan. Mr. K. Shanmugam, Minister for Law and Foreign Affairs, said, “As one of Singapore’s top criminal lawyers with over 1,500 criminal cases under his belt, Subhas is a legend in the courtroom. His sharp intellect, combative spirit and indomitable will are well-known. Subhas’ steadfast belief in a fair defence for the accused, and for a second chance to be accorded to them regardless of their chequered past, is well-known.” Mr. Rajan Menon, Senior Partner, RHTLaw Taylor Wessing LLP, said, “In 43 years of legal practice, Subhas has established himself as an outstanding criminal lawyer we have today at the Singapore Criminal Bar.
