Industry Roundtable on SGX Consultation Paper – Proposed Listing Framework for Special Purpose Acquisition Companies

Event Highlights

SPACs – Game changer or reckless craze?

The global business community is faced with the largest economic recession caused by the impact of COVID-19 in 2020. Nevertheless, in an era of high liquidity and low interest rates, attention has turned to special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) which may well become a viable alternative to traditional IPOs for fund-raising in this region.

The Singapore Exchange (SGX) has launched a consultation on Special Purpose Acquisition Companies (SPACs), with proposals to address some of the risks posed by this listing structure.

Scope of this consultation paper includes:

  • Admission criteria
  • Conditions for founding shareholders, management team and controlling shareholders
  • Business combination requirements

This roundtable will discuss the implications of the SGX consultation paper.
